Health data policy

What you eat, what you weigh and how you train is health information, and it deserves stricter handling than the rest of an account. This page says how we treat it. It sits alongside the privacy policy rather than replacing it.
Draft for review. This page describes how CalChopAI is actually built and what it really does with your data, but it has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. It will be before public launch.
  • Your meal log and the photos attached to it.
  • Your weight and any weigh-in history.
  • Your height, age, sex and activity level, where you have entered them.
  • Your goals, including whether you are trying to lose, maintain or gain.
  • Water and exercise entries.
  • Health data is never sold. Not now, and not as a later change of business model.
  • Health data is never used for advertising, and never shared with advertisers or data brokers.
  • Health data is not used to train AI models — not ours, and not our provider's.
  • It is shared only with the processors listed in the privacy policy, only to run the service, and only to the extent each one needs.
  • Access inside our team is limited to people who need it to operate or support the service.
Because this is sensitive data under the NDPA 2023 and under GDPR, we rely on your explicit consent to process it, given when you enter it. You can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting the data or your account, and withdrawing it does not affect anything we lawfully did beforehand.
Groups are opt-in. If you join or create one, other members can see the progress you share into it. Nothing goes into a group unless you put it there, and leaving a group stops it.
Apple Health is opt-in and off until you connect it. When you do, CalChopAI reads your active energy, steps and workouts on your iPhone so the calories you burn can be added back to your daily goal. That reading stays on your phone: it is not uploaded to our servers, not shared with anyone, not used for advertising and not used to train AI models. CalChopAI writes nothing to Apple Health, and you can turn its access off at any time in the Health app.
A Google Fit connection is planned on the same terms: opt-in, off by default, and nothing leaves CalChopAI unless you switch it on.
Calorie tracking is not good for everyone. For some people it becomes the problem rather than the solution.
If tracking is making your relationship with food worse, stop, and talk to somebody qualified. You can delete your account and all of its data from inside the app, immediately, without asking our permission or explaining yourself. We will not send you emails trying to win you back.
